Season 1 expertly established Anirban Bhattacharya as the new face of the classic detective while also introducing us to the new Ajit and Satyabati. The Sherlock approach of devoting a whole season to one or two mysteries has worked brilliantly for this show. Despite the strain, Anirban Bhattacharya maintains the fort, and his performance is admirable.
As a result, the affable detective’s shoes are difficult to fill. Many renowned performers, like Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, and even superstar Uttam Kumar, have played Byomkesh in Bengali films. On the small and large screens, Bollywood stars Rajit Kapoor and, more recently, Sushanth Singh Rajput has played the suave, cigarette-smoking detective, respectively.
